Employer Identification Number (EIN)

The EIN is a unique nine digit number provided by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) upon request. Businesses need this in order to run payroll, pay their taxes and open a business bank account. It is also know as the Federal Tax ID or federal employer identification number (FEIN).

To obtain an EIN you will need a few things, for example:

  • The Sole Proprietor or business name
  • A physical address
  • A responsible person with a SSN or ITIN
  • The county and state the business is located in
  • And more, depending on the type of business receiving the EIN
